EPS received much praise for the recent plant refurbishment at the indoor leisure pool complex owned by Torridge District Council, Bideford Devon

The pool was built in the late 70's and much of the air handling plant had been out of action for some time. EPS were called in to assess the new plant requirements and had to choose between a single large air handling unit, or a matched pair of smaller units. A pair of Calorex Delta 14 units were installed with a total heating capability approaching 200kw.

"The major consideration here was one of access" reports EPS M.D. John Scott. "The original air handling units were clearly installed before the building was completed and almost certainly before the boiler plant and filtration were installed. We considered removing sections of the roof, and craning the plant in (as we have on previous projects). Following extensive surveys and computer modelling however we discovered that with some plant removal, temporary scaffolding and imaginative lifting tackle that we had a couple of spare inches that we could squeeze the Calorex units through!!"

The air handling installation went without a hitch and was provided alongside improvements to the boiler pipework, heat recovery systems and controls. We followed this with management of the Filtration refurbishment which included new access arrangements into the filters to comply with the latest Health and Safety directives.

The entire installation works took four weeks and was completed well within programme and without a single lost day swimming at his busy pool complex.

Torridge Council's spokes person Simon Hoare congratulated EPS on a job professionally undertaken and commented on how well the installation had gone, considering how difficult the project had been.
